KRVS 88.7 FM is a non-profit, listener-supported public radio station licensed to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Broadcasting as Radio Acadie, the station serves as the cultural heartbeat of Acadiana, reaching audiences in and beyond Southwest Louisiana with content that reflects the region’s culture, heritage, values, and languages — including French, Creole, and Spanish. The station broadcasts more than 70 hours a week of locally produced programs — along with National Public Radio news — on its 88.7 FM broadcast frequency, at KRVS.org and as HD1 on its app. Listeners near and far can tune in or stream KRVS live online to discover one of Louisiana’s most distinctive public radio voices. The station features programming from American Public Media, NPR, and Public Radio International.
The programming lineup at KRVS reflects a deep passion for regional music and storytelling. The station plays Cajun, Zydeco, Blues, Jazz, Swamp Pop, Swamp Rock, and Louisiana singer/songwriter music, among many other distinct musical styles created and played in Louisiana. Dirty Rice is the longest-running Louisiana music show on the station, now hosted on an alternating-week basis by KRVS Chief Engineer Karl Fontenot. Additional standout programs include Louisiana Eats! — hosted by Poppy — a radio show for people who cook and love to eat well, all with a Louisiana point of view. Live broadcasts from Lafayette’s major annual festivals and frequent live performances from the Cypress Lake Studio help to define Radio Acadie’s distinctive sound. Meanwhile, KRVS HD2 — branded as KampusFM — serves as the station’s college radio digital subchannel, where growing numbers of students participate in every aspect of its programming. The HD2 format features student-run Top 40 programming with student DJs, and also plays lo-fi beats on weeknights for listeners looking to study or unwind. An additional channel, HD3, offers public media news and information programs 24 hours a day.
