KENZ – Power 94.9 / 101.9

I believe the “Who’s the Jerk” segment breeds toxicity within our community. You are all creative people and can certainly come up something more positive than this. Broadcasting this segment allows individuals to carelessly share and promote ill-conceived practices. For example: the one where the daughter cut off her father because he is uncomfortable around his ex-wife. He may not have handled himself well and as far we are all concerned he may have some problems since it has been 20+ years since his divorce, but do we really encourage this generation to cut people off because they can’t process their trauma or they don’t like the same kind of ice cream? I mean the daughter could invite him to other activities and even to some without the ex-wife? What about the one where the MIL bought a gift card for her DIL as a gift so she could spend time with her DIL? Instead of looking at the positive the DJs and audience criticized the MIL and assumed she was narcissistic and controlling. Could it be she wants to build a strong and positive relationship with her DIL, someone her child is devoted to?

Nothing about this segment promotes positivity and unconditional love. If the DJs want to do something positive, let’s encourage this generation to be more compassionate, more accepting, and less critical of their parents and seniors. We are too quick to judge each other and their perceptions and rarely consider our own actions contribute to the disfunction.

This segment alone is enough to stop me from listening to the station. Perhaps putting on your creative caps and replacing it would be a better use of your valuable time and input across Utah. Here are some ideas:
1. Who’s the Hero? listeners submit stories where someone handled a tough situation really well. Maybe with kindness and integrity.
Example: My coworker stayed late to help me fix a mistake – Who’s the Hero
2. What Would You Do (better)?
Still present the messy situations but instead of judging people, listeners give better solutions. As DJs you can share 2-3 positive outcomes and have listener’s vote.
3. Kindness Confessions
Listeners anonymously share times they did something kind for someone, big or small.
Example: paying for someone’s groceries, checking on a neighbor, forgiving someone.
4. Turn It Around
Listeners submit a negative situation they handled poorly and how they learned and improved.
5. Make It Right
Listeners ask how to fix a mistake they made
Example: They ghosted a friend, how do they make it right?
6. Good Vibes Only Challenge
The show gives listeners a weekly positivity challenge (compliment someone, write a thank you note, help a stranger) then shares the results.
7. The Bright Side
Listeners share a problem, and hosts/listeners find the silver lining or opportunity.

These are just simple, cheesy examples of something more positive. I’m just tired of hearing all the judging and excuses for throwing individuals aside. We are better than this.
