KBYS Radio on 88.3 FM is a community radio station licensed to Lake Charles, Louisiana, owned and operated by McNeese State University. The station holds the distinction of being the first and only HD Radio broadcaster serving the Southwest Louisiana community, including Lake Charles, Sulphur, Westlake, Moss Bluff, and parts of Calcasieu, Cameron, and Jeff Davis parishes. The playlist spans a wide range of sounds, anchored by hit rock and classic rock from the late ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s, while also making room for specialty shows covering swamp pop, indie, adult alternative, EDM, and more — making KBYS one of the most eclectic and locally rooted stations in the region. Listeners across Southwest Louisiana can tune in on 88.3 FM or stream online at kbys.fm, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
KBYS is powered by the students at McNeese State University and community volunteers from Lake Charles and across Southwest Louisiana. A primary concern of the station is the health and welfare of its listeners — routinely broadcasting local weather reports, highway and road conditions, school closures and schedule changes, bridge closures, ferry boat changes, and transit schedule updates that keep Southwest Louisiana communities informed when it matters most. KBYS also supports other non-profit organizations with announcements of their activities, reinforcing its identity as a true community-first broadcaster. Weekend listeners can catch David “Block” Vincent spinning classic country hits on Saturdays, while evening fans look forward to Jules during the drive-home slot and Walker anchoring Sunday mornings with a relaxed breakfast-time show — three volunteer-powered personalities that have built loyal audiences entirely on the strength of local connection and love for the music.
