KBBI Radio, known as “Homer Public Radio,” is a National Public Radio (NPR) member station broadcasting from Homer, Alaska. Its primary signal is on 890 AM, serving the southern Kenai Peninsula and beyond. To extend its reach and improve reception in other areas, KBBI also broadcasts on 88.1 FM in Seward, Alaska. This dual-frequency approach ensures broad accessibility for its listeners across the diverse Alaskan landscape.
Beyond news and information, KBBI 890 AM features a mix of music genres, from country/western and jazz to pop, rock, folk, and even local Alaskan artists. Listeners can tune in for popular local programs such as “Coffee Table,” an interview show focusing on community issues, and “Homer Grown,” a show dedicated to gardening and local agriculture. A unique feature is “Bush Lines,” where messages are sent to friends and relatives in remote areas without other communication means. KBBI also offers coverage of local events, including a summer outdoor concert called “Concert on the Lawn.” The station is owned by Kachemak Bay Broadcasting Inc., a community-founded non-profit organization.
